thanks for making the comparison, joe. it is also interesting to read how everyone here (liliane, carlos, sandra, even joe in your original comments) jumped into less than accurate conclusions!

indeed i was extremely disappointed to see the cable ad around the city last week. but i wasn’t shocked.

i had designed the kazamaza cover back in mid may, in preparation for our july issue about the “intersection of consumerism and sexism,” all to the detriment of women in society. our current issue hit the newsstand (i.e. released to the public) during the week of july 26. i don’t know when the cable ad was released. of course i can’t and i am not accusing the cable company of copying anything — it may simply be a coincidence.

regarding the third ad showing a baby’s body covered with consumer brand logos, i hadn’t seen that one before; any idea who the advertiser is?

btw, liliane, two points about your statement “copied from the west”:

(1) rest assured that i didn’t “copy” the ad from anywhere or anyone — i have no need to do that, and coincidence is possible in a contemporary world that is so small and old like the one we live in. a few years ago i came upon a painting depicting the same theme of a charcoal drawing that i had sketched back in 1995 — the catch is that the painting was done by an artist in 1562!! i’d be happy to show you this artwork of mine at some point.

(2) it seems that you conflate creativity with “the west,” or at least reserve any hints of creativity solely to “the west.” how utterly lacking in imagination and ingenuity is your statement. that is plain absurd. creativity is not a “western” concept. besides, in my view there is no such a thing as “the west,” but that is a topic for a different time and place to discuss.

all the best. -
